So, having decided to do it, I ordered that Pacer frame set from webcyclery.com – with a 10% coupon from earlier purchases, holy crap. With shipping and after tax, $390! So sick. Incidentally Universalcycles.com – who I do the majority of my purchasing through, and who does price matching, could not match this price.
(I’m sorry LBS’s, I know there’s no margin in this shit and this doesn’t help. I frequent you for many many other things though!)
The bad news, Meanie Todd called to let me know they’re out of stock, and so is the distributor (QBP aka Surly). Expected to have them in December 8th. Damn.
At that price though, I told him I’d wait. I also hit up a couple LBS’s, but they gave me the same story since they too are getting parts from QBP. If the distributor’s out, they’re out. Waddaya gonna do?
It’s not the end of the world. I’ll just buy other parts and have them on deck when the frame shows up. I ordered the CETMA rack and a 1’1/8th inch headset (all mine are 1 inch headsets dammit). Next pay period I’ll pick up tires, handlebars and brake levers. A new rear derailleur and fenders after that. And then! Should be done. Looking around Christmas again by the time I’m done.
Not sure what sort of handlebar brake/shifter configuration to use yet. Drops? Flatbar? Midge? Mustache? I’m leaning towards flatbar – we shall see though.
Didn’t I build myself a bike for Christmas last year? Heh. There’s something seriously wrong with me.
