“We’re a drinking club with a biking problem”
Met up with the .83 kids Brunch Ride at Top Pot Donuts on 5th in downtown Seattle. This is a brand new crew for me, and a new ride. Sorta knew a few people from Slow Sunday ride – Aden and Kat – but that was it.
The ride was good. There was wind out but it was blowing North so had it to our backs. By the time we came back the wind had gone, so no headwind to deal with.
This was our route out to Carkeek Park more or less I think…
We moved at a good clip, stopped for groceries and liquor and food makings and headed down a path into the park.
I’d never been to Carkeek before so didn’t know what to expect. Its a beautiful area with a great view on the water and a big fire pit. It was overcast and slightly windy but not too bad at all. Snow on the mountains in the distance on the other side of the water… Really nice.
We hung out, cooked food, drank bloody marys, bullshitted. Slow Sundayz crew surprised us and met us out there, so for a quick moment we were like 15 people or so. About an hour later they split again. People peeled off to head for home around dark but the truth is I was a little buzzed myself, so the departure order is a little blurry for me. I don’t know what happened to Derrick, Shannon, Andrew and Patrick for instance. I know Sketchy, who showed up with his car, took Nova, Dylan, and Gretchen in his car. Presumably the rest of us biked out of it.
The hill out of that park sucks. Again I was last up, but believe it or not I am getting better at climbing. Big thanks to Raz, Kat, Chris and Trevor waiting for me at the top. Keep having to remind myself that despite a few false starts, I’ve only been on the road since Christmas.
Biked down to the Latona in Greenlake/Tangletown for beer and food where we met back up with Aden and Kalen who’d left earlier in the afternoon to attend a house meeting. Then we were off to the University Inn (40th and University) for more beer and food where Yayo rejoined us to reclaim his camera he left at the picnic site.
I left my camera at home unfortunately, so all I have are camera phone pictures which aren’t bad exactly, but aren’t great either. CLICK HERE FOR THE WHOLE IMAGE GALLERY. Heres a few pics though that sorta sum up the day I think.
…and yeah. That was the .83 Brunch Ride. Times!
